What Do Taxes and Milfoil Have In Common? Please click the box above to read this important article.
Are lakefront owners the only one affected when a lake is infested with exotic weeds such as milfoil? The answer is unequivocal - NO!

Please read the article above, which explains the tax consequences to the Town of Limerick, Maine when Lake Arrowhead was infested by milfoil. The infestation resulted in a property value reduction, which caused a tax increase for residents of the town who do not live on the lake. The adverse affect on property values on exotic weed infested lakes is well documented.

What happens if Tacoma Lakes are infested with exotic weeds such as milfoil? Property values will fall, and every taxpayer in Litchfield and Monmouth, except those on the lakes, will pay higher taxes. No one in either community will be immune if property values on the lakes fall due an exotic weed infestation.

If the residents of Litchfield and Monmouth do not want to see their taxes increase, they should support the efforts of the Tacoma Lakes Improvement Society to encourage each community to provide greater financial support to help protect our beautiful lakes. Tacoma Lakes Improvement Society cannot fight this battle alone. Please contact the members of the Litchfield and Monmouth Selectboards and ask them to provide greater financial support to help protect our lakes!
