A Message from our President
President’s Letter
Welcome to our new, exciting Website! Our Website Committee has been busy over the winter months updating the site. Going forward this will be your “go to” spot for all things related to TLA. We have added a calendar of upcoming events, merchandise page, and links to other information regarding our lakes and the Watershed Friends.
Keep an eye on our event calendar, as we are exploring several events for the upcoming summer season. We are also exploring adding more merchandise for you to proudly show your support of TLA.
And this summer TLA formerly known as the Tacoma Lakes Improvement Society, will celebrate its 85 year anniversary! We continue to have the greatest volunteer plant patrol survey team in the State. Led by Diane Clay, they are on the lakes weekly beginning in July, and are trained in identifying several species of aquatic invasive species. We hope their efforts will continue to be successful, and that they will not find any invasive in the Tacoma’s. This summer they will be utilizing 2 clear “crystal” kayaks, both provided through generous donations. These new tools will greatly enhance the ability of Plant Patrol members to see the plants growing in the lakes.
This Association would not exist without you, our members. We are here to maintain the better than average water quality rating, and to address any threat of invasive species.
Please remember to renew your annual membership, as those monies enable us to pay for the Certified Boat Inspection program. We provide inspectors at the Woodbury launch for 6 hours on Thursdays and 12 hours on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays throughout the summer. In 2025 2,020 boats were inspected, averaging 3.45 boats inspected per hour. The Woodbury launch is the 2nd busiest launch in the Cobbossee Watershed, in terms of total inspections, and inspections per hour. These inspections come with substantial costs to TLA, and with several neighboring lakes having invasive plants, you can clearly see the importance of this program.
The TLA Officers and Directors are excited for the future! We hope you join us in enjoying our beautiful and healthy lakes, and in keeping the TLA a viable and relevant entity into the next 85 years.
